This past weekend, my mom and I attended an incredible summit hosted by Breakthrough T1D, a global organization dedicated to research and advocacy for Type 1 diabetes.

Back when Kay was first diagnosed and, in the hospital, I was given a backpack filled with helpful resources, children’s books about Type 1, and a sweet bear named Rufus. I am so grateful for organizations like Breakthrough T1D, which not only provide valuable materials but also connect us with families who have been on this journey for a while and can share their experiences and insights.

We spent most of the day at the summit, and I left with more knowledge than I came in with, which was exactly my goal. I met with various vendors and connected with a few other families. Events like this give me a chance to learn and provide a sense of community during this time when I’m still finding my way.
