There is something so special about having people in your child’s life who continue to show up for them, even after a chapter has ended. Kay’s Miracle League T-ball game gave me another reminder of just how meaningful those connections can be, and it made for such a memorable morning!
Kay got to wear her Sparkle Smash unicorn monster truck costume to the game, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. It had been rainy over the last couple of days, so I was a little worried the weather might interfere with the game, but thankfully, the rain missed us! We were able to enjoy the morning outside, and watch the kids play.
One of the sweetest surprises of the morning was seeing Kay’s former teacher’s aide from preschool show up to watch her play! I cannot put into words how much gratitude I have for Kay’s preschool teachers and the entire team who loved and supported her during that chapter of her life. Even though Kay has moved on to kindergarten at a new school, they continue to show up for her in such meaningful ways. Whether it’s coming to an important walk, cheering her on at a T-ball game, or simply continuing to check in and show her love, they remind us that the connections we make along the way can last far beyond the classroom.
School has been hard this year, both for Kay and for me. We came from a school environment where love, joy, and inclusion were such a big part of our everyday experience. Kay was surrounded by people who knew her, celebrated her, and made her feel like she belonged. Moving on to a new school has been a difficult adjustment, and I think part of that comes from knowing firsthand what a supportive and inclusive environment can look like. Once you’ve experienced that kind of community, it’s hard not to want the same for your child wherever they go.
I’m also learning that not every school environment is the same, and that has been a tough reality to accept. As a parent, you want your child to be welcomed, understood, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive. You want them to have people in their corner who see their potential and celebrate the little things right alongside the big milestones. I know those people and those environments exist, and I’m so thankful Kay has already experienced what that kind of love and support feels like.
That’s why moments like this T-ball game mean so much to me. Seeing someone from her preschool days take time out of their Halloween morning to come watch her play was such a thoughtful reminder that Kay is still loved and remembered by the people who were part of that chapter. They didn’t have to be there, but they chose to be, and that means more than they probably realize. Kay also had her occupational therapist there to cheer her on, which made the morning even more special!
Sometimes, it’s the little things that end up meaning the most. Having familiar faces in the stands, knowing people are rooting for your child, and watching your little one enjoy an activity surrounded by people who care about them can make an ordinary morning feel extraordinary.
I’m so grateful for everyone who continues to show up for Kay, support her, and celebrate her milestones, big and small. Getting to watch Kay play T-ball in her costume with some very special people there to cheer her on made the morning even better. These are the memories I will always hold close, and I’m thankful Kay has people in her life who continue to remind us that the love and connections we’ve made don’t have to end just because one chapter has closed.
