After a fun-filled weekend of Halloween festivities, it was finally time for a little trick-or-treating! We headed over to a nearby neighborhood where one of my dad’s friends lives. We know their street always goes all out for Halloween, and it’s become such a fun place to visit. Between the decorations, the houses handing out candy, and all the people out enjoying the evening, it’s always a great atmosphere and a fun way to celebrate.
After spending some time there, we made our way back to our own neighborhood to see what Halloween night had in store for us. Unfortunately, things were a little less exciting in our neighborhood.
I actually remember one of the reasons my parents originally chose to move to this neighborhood was because they had brought me and a friend here to trick-or-treat years ago, and the neighborhood was full of kids, families, and people passing out candy. It was one of those neighborhoods where you could walk around for hours and find plenty of houses participating. Even after we moved here, it stayed that way for several years. Somewhere along the way, though, things started slowing down. And I mean really slowing down!
This year, we were lucky to find a handful of houses handing out candy. We walked around for a little while, checked out what we could, and eventually decided to head back home and relax for the rest of the evening. I guess our neighborhood’s trick-or-treating days of glory are officially behind us!
Thankfully, Kay had already gotten plenty of Halloween fun throughout the weekend. Between the Halloween party at her ABA clinic, the Trunk or Treat at my dad’s union, and getting to show off her Sparkle Smash costume at her T-ball game, she had no shortage of opportunities to celebrate. So even though Halloween night itself was a little quieter than we would have liked, it certainly didn’t take away from all the fun she had leading up to it.
At the end of the day, Halloween doesn’t have to be packed with activities from morning to night to be a good one. I’m just grateful Kay got to dress up, collect some candy, enjoy time with family, and experience all the fun that comes with this time of year. We may have had a quieter night than expected, but we still made some memories, and that’s what matters most!
