There’s just something about the start of t-ball season that feels like a fresh little burst of joy, and this weekend did not disappoint.
Kay had her very first game of the spring season, bright and early at 8am. It was already warm (because… Las Vegas), but thankfully not too hot yet. The heat has definitely made its presence known a little earlier than expected this year, so we were grateful for that early time slot.
T-ball continues to be one of our absolute favorite activities. Kay truly loves it, and it shows in every smile, every run to the base, and every moment she gets to be out there with her team. What makes it even more special is the environment – everyone involved goes out of their way to make the experience fun, inclusive, and exciting for the kids. It’s not just about the game, it’s about the joy.
Of course, Maeve was right there with us, doing what she does best. She stayed locked in on Kay the entire time, keeping her nose on her and alerting me if anything seemed off. I never take for granted the peace of mind that comes with having her by our side. She truly is such an important part of Kay’s team.
As expected, Maeve drew a lot of attention from the kids, because let’s be honest, she is pretty cute. But I’m always so appreciative of how supportive the coaches are. They don’t hesitate to help reinforce service dog etiquette, and it makes such a difference. With their support (and a few gentle reminders from me), the kids will start to understand that while Maeve is adorable, she’s also working and needs to stay focused.
One of the sweetest moments of the morning was when Kay got a surprise visitor from the ABA facility she attends. She already had her biggest fan, her Papa, there cheering her on like always, but when she spotted another familiar face, her excitement was next level. Seeing her light up like that is something I’ll never get tired of. We truly feel so lucky with the team at her ABA facility. Their thoughtfulness and support mean more than I can put into words.
And just when we thought the morning couldn’t get any more memorable, the team received an unforgettable surprise visit from Bobby Grich, a retired MLB player who played for the Los Angeles Angels. Since Kay’s team is the Angels, it made the experience even more meaningful. He joined the kids in the dugout, took photos, and signed autographs—turning an already special morning into something truly memorable.
We’re already looking forward to next week’s game. It’s a later one, but with slightly cooler weather in the forecast, I have no doubt it’ll be another great day on the field.
