On Sunday, Kay, my mom, her friend, and I spent the morning at our favorite inclusive coffee shop, Dig It Coffee! It was such a treat to hang out together in such a welcoming space. Kay enjoyed an adorable and delicious heart-shaped grilled cheese with a side of chips. I opted for avocado toast topped with a spicy tomato sauce spread and, of course, one of my favorite peanut butter lattes.

When we walked in, Kay cheerfully said, “Ho Ho Ho,” remembering our last visit in December when she got to meet Santa! It warms my heart to see Kay starting to recall places and the special memories tied to them. Her growing awareness and joy in these little moments make outings like this even more meaningful.

We absolutely love Dig It Coffee and the incredible message they share. It’s a place where people of all abilities can come together, work, and earn a fair wage. For parents of children with special needs, spaces like Dig It are a dream come true. I hope that when Kay is old enough and interested in working, we can find her a similarly inclusive and supportive environment.

After our wonderful morning at Dig It, Kay and I headed home to relax for the rest of the day. Sundays are usually our quiet, recharge days with no big plans, and sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.
