Kay and I attended another session of Music Makers at GiGi’s Playhouse, and this time, it was all about love in celebration of Valentine’s Day! Kay absolutely loves music and dancing—though we’re still working on following tasks. Hah! But that’s the beauty of GiGi’s Playhouse—they embrace everyone just as they are. So even if following along isn’t your thing just yet, you do what you can.

Kay participated in a few activities before deciding she’d rather sit back and observe for the rest. And that was okay. We took a break, watched, and then jumped back in for the parachute and free dance!

I’ve come to realize that while the goal is for Kay to engage in every activity, that won’t always happen—and that’s completely fine. At GiGi’s Playhouse, there’s no pressure for kids to sit still, follow every instruction, or participate perfectly. They understand that every child is different and sometimes just needs a break.

As a parent, it’s easy to feel anxious when your child doesn’t want to sit and listen to a story or take part in an activity. It can be tough to watch them run around while others are following along. But the truth is, they have their whole lives ahead of them to be told when to sit, when to stand, and what to do. So for now, it’s okay to let them be themselves—to move, to explore, and to embrace the moment in their own way.
