GiGi’s Playhouse isn’t just a place for individuals with Down Syndrome—it’s also a space for moms and caregivers to connect, recharge, and support one another. I’m so grateful for nights like these, where we can gather with others who truly understand this journey. Being surrounded by like-minded moms and caregivers fills your cup in ways you didn’t even realize you needed.
We spent our Galantines evening sharing our stories—how we first discovered GiGi’s Playhouse and the incredible impact it has had on our lives. Over delicious food and wine, we played games, wrote down what we love most about ourselves on heart-shaped paper cutouts, and captured sweet moments with a Polaroid camera. It was a night of laughter, connection, and much-needed joy.
These gatherings are so important for moms and caregivers in the disability community. Every day, we advocate fiercely to ensure our children have the opportunities they deserve, striving for inclusion in all aspects of life. I recently came across a quote that resonated deeply: “Invite disability to your table, your job, your schools, your life. Because the reality is, we just want your world to be our world too.” We work tirelessly to teach our children how to navigate a world designed for the typical child, always hoping that the same world will make space for them too. That they’ll be included. That they’ll have a seat at the table.
Nights like these remind us that we’re not alone. Here, we can share our thoughts and fears without judgment. We can vent, cry, and, in the end, be met with understanding, encouragement, and hugs. Without Kay, I might never have known that such a loving and accepting community existed. And for that, I am endlessly grateful.
