Well, we officially survived the first week of kindergarten!
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect going into this new chapter. Kindergarten is a big transition for any child, but for Kay, there were a few extra things on my mind. New school, new teachers, new routines, new people, and a whole lot of changes all at once. After everything we had worked through to get her ready for school, actually seeing her walk into kindergarten felt a little surreal.
Her first week was definitely a learning experience for all of us. Kay is getting used to her new routine and figuring out what kindergarten is all about. She is learning where she needs to be, who she can go to for help, and what is expected of her throughout the day. There have been some good moments, some challenging moments, and plenty of little things that remind me just how much she is growing.
One thing I have really loved seeing is how Kay continues to show everyone that she is capable of more than people sometimes expect. She may need things explained differently or need a little extra support along the way, but she is still a kindergartener who wants to learn, make friends, have fun, and be part of everything happening around her.
Of course, as her mom, I am still adjusting too. Leaving her at school for the day is a completely different feeling than dropping her off at ABA or one of her therapies. This is a whole new chapter of her life, and I think part of me will always have a little voice wondering how she is doing, whether she is happy, whether she needs help, and whether everyone understands her the way I do.
But I am also incredibly proud.
Kay has already come so far, and now she gets to start this next adventure. Kindergarten is just the beginning of her school journey, and I cannot wait to see everything she learns, the friendships she makes, and all the little milestones along the way.
Week one is officially in the books, and while we still have plenty to figure out, I think it is safe to say we are off to a pretty good start.
