I recently switched Kay’s endocrinologist because I felt the care she was receiving wasn’t up to the standard she deserves. I understand that doctors can be busy, and sometimes our options are limited, but I refuse to settle for mediocre care when it comes to Kay’s health.

If Kay doesn’t receive the proper treatment, it could seriously harm her health and lead to long-lasting consequences. That’s why it’s crucial to have a strong support team, including a reliable medical team.

From the moment I learned Kay would be born with Down Syndrome, I’ve been determined to advocate for her, and that determination has only grown stronger now that diabetes is part of her life as well. I know the first year of managing diabetes will be challenging, with many unknowns, like why Kay reacts differently to certain foods now.

Until the day comes when this feels less overwhelming, it’s important to remember to take it one day at a time—sometimes, that’s all you can do.
