Kay and I had the opportunity to help with Open Play again over the weekend at GiGi’s Playhouse. Since we usually attend Open Play every Saturday, I’m always happy to lend a hand whenever I can. I enjoy arriving early to set out toys and prepare the playhouse for visitors and other volunteers.
I’ve noticed firsthand that as the programs at GiGi’s Playhouse expand, new volunteers are eager to get involved. They come to check out the various programs and decide which one they’d like to officially support. What’s truly remarkable is that many of these volunteers don’t have a personal connection to someone with Down syndrome and only recently learned about GiGi’s Playhouse. This demonstrates that there are genuinely selfless people who want to help their community and recognize the beauty in individuals with Down syndrome. Spending just an hour or two with these wonderful, loving individuals allows the volunteers to experience the same joy and love we see in our children.
I love this community and would be absolutely lost without the constant support and love from all the wonderful families I have met and have been able to call my friends.
