Halloween was full of fun this year, and we were lucky enough to celebrate with not one, but two special events! Kay got to show off her Halloween costume, dressed as Sparkle Smash, the unicorn monster truck, and she looked absolutely adorable! She even got a few compliments on her costume while we were out, which was so fun to see.
We started our afternoon at the very first Halloween party hosted by Kay’s ABA clinic, and it was such a great time! There was delicious food, cotton candy, plenty of candy, music, games, face painting, and lots of vendors to check out. We enjoyed some really good food, got to see some of our friends, and spent time enjoying all the fun activities. I love that Kay’s clinic put together an event like this for the families, and it was wonderful to see everyone getting to enjoy the afternoon together. Since this was their first Halloween party, I hope it becomes something they continue to do in the years to come!
After spending some time at the clinic’s party, we headed over to my dad’s union for their Trunk or Treat. There were so many cool trunks set up, with fun decorations and plenty of candy to hand out. Kay had a blast going from trunk to trunk, checking everything out, and collecting as much candy as she could. Between the two events, she definitely ended the afternoon with a pretty good candy haul!
Of course, one of the best parts about Halloween for our family is having extra candy to stash away for Kay’s low blood sugar snacks. Living with type one diabetes means always having to think ahead about treating lows, and having a variety of quick sugar options on hand is important. Just like the rest of us, Kay gets tired of eating the same things over and over, so switching up her low snacks helps keep things from getting too repetitive. Halloween candy gives us some extra options to add to our stash, which is a little bonus that comes with all the trick-or-treating fun!
It was such a fun, jam-packed afternoon, and I’m incredibly grateful we had the opportunity to take Kay to both events. Between spending time with friends, enjoying all the activities, showing off her Sparkle Smash costume, and collecting a mountain of candy, she had such a great time. These are the kinds of experiences I want her to have: opportunities to make memories, try new things, and simply enjoy being a kid. I know Halloween night itself may be a little quieter for us this year, but getting to spend the afternoon celebrating makes up for it. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off Halloween!
