Kay got to spend some time with the LV Lights Soccer team, and what a special experience it was!
The team invited participants from GiGi’s Playhouse Las Vegas to join them at the end of practice for some time on the field, kicking the ball around and having an interactive afternoon with the players. Kay ended up being the only participant who made it, which meant she got plenty of one-on-one attention, and she absolutely loved every minute of it!
The guys on the team were so wonderful with Kay. They showed her so much kindness, encouraged her with every kick, and cheered her on in a way that made the whole experience even more special. It was so sweet watching them take the time to include her, make her feel celebrated, and have fun right alongside her.
And of course, Kay had to make sure everyone was doing things her way when it came time for the group picture! LOL She somehow got the entire team cheerfully yelling “CHEESE!” for the photo. Kay may be so tiny that you can barely spot her in the picture, but trust me, she made her presence known!
I’m so thankful for opportunities like this that allow Kay to be included in experiences she might not otherwise have, while connecting with people who are so willing to welcome her with open arms. Moments like these are a beautiful reminder that inclusion doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s simply about making space, showing kindness, and making sure everyone gets to be part of the fun.
Having this experience during Down Syndrome Awareness Month makes it that much more meaningful.
A huge thank you to the LV Lights Soccer team for welcoming Kay onto the field and making her feel like part of the team. She had the BEST time, and I hope they know how much little moments like this mean to our families!
