From Listener to Guest: My Experience on The Juicebox Podcast
The Juicebox Podcast focuses on helping families and individuals living with Type One Diabetes.
In May, I came across a post in the Juicebox Podcast Facebook group where the host, Scott Benner, invited people to share their stories for a chance to be featured on the show. I sent an email about when Kay was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, but I also shared that her story of strength began long before that day. I talked about Kay’s difficult start in life and all that she has overcome in just four short years. I’m so grateful that Scott wanted to hear more about our journey.
Recording with him was such a wonderful experience. Scott is incredibly open and understanding. He has a way of asking thoughtful questions that make even the tough topics feel comfortable to talk about. He listens with genuine interest, and his conversations make you feel heard and supported.
There was so much more I could have shared, but we fit in as much as we could. We talked about what it’s like being Kay’s mom and how I navigate her having Down syndrome, hearing loss, Type One Diabetes, and most recently, autism. We also discussed her therapies, my hopes for her future, and the ways I try to care for myself when life feels especially overwhelming.
Finding The Juicebox Podcast has helped me in so many ways. It offers helpful tips about diabetes and shares real stories that remind you you’re not alone in the challenges you face. I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to speak with Scott and can’t wait to hear our episode when it airs.
My episode should be released in about two months, but you can listen to current episodes of The Juicebox Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, iHeartRadio, Radio Public, Amazon Music, and other podcast platforms. You can also learn more and listen directly at juiceboxpodcast.com.
