Kay returned to her weekly therapy sessions this week. After a two-week break from both school and therapy, she was excited but a little hesitant about participating. Thankfully, her therapists are wonderful at engaging her, using creative redirection to make the sessions fun and turn her mood around.

Kay typically receives physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, each lasting 30 minutes. However, her speech therapist moved on to pursue a different path about a month ago, leaving her without speech therapy sessions. Fortunately, another speech therapist at the center had an opening and offered to work with Kay, to which I happily agreed. Kay seems to be a favorite at her therapy center, and her new therapist was eager to get to know her and find the best ways to support her progress. After their session, the therapist was impressed with Kay’s speaking abilities and even updated her speech goals, advancing her from forming 3–4-word sentences to 4-5 word sentences.

I’m amazed every day by Kay’s eagerness to learn and how quickly she picks up new words. Her current favorite phrase is “one more time,” which she accompanies with a raised finger. Whether it’s finishing a task, a song, or even a loving hug, Kay always follows up with “one more time”—and of course, who could resist? This often results in repeating activities several more times rather than just once more.

I truly believe Kay’s love for books and music plays a big role in her enthusiasm for learning new words. Both are fantastic learning tools, and I’m so excited to see her continue to grow and flourish!
