Kay had a wonderful Halloween, starting the evening by Trick-or-Treating around our neighborhood. Dressed in her adorable kitty costume, she visited a few neighbors before getting a bit tired; her early bedtime still holds, and though I tried to stretch it a bit, after a few houses, she began asking to go home.
Back at the house, Kay enjoyed seeing the costumes of other Trick-or-Treaters who stopped by for candy! Our neighborhood isn’t as lively as it once was for Halloween, with fewer houses participating now. I remember one of the reasons my parents chose this neighborhood years ago was because of the bustling Halloween nights, and I always went home with a stash of candy from my rounds with them.
Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays, and I love introducing Kay to the fun of Trick-or-Treating. I hope next year is a bit busier, and maybe Kay will want to stay out longer! Even with her Type 1 Diabetes, I’m determined for her to enjoy Halloween as fully as anyone else. I’ve heard of families who use the “switch witch” tradition, where some candy is kept for later use for low blood sugars, and the rest is swapped for a fun toy. While Kay doesn’t fully grasp the excitement of candy yet, this could be a great option as she grows older!
This season is my favorite, and we’re looking forward to the upcoming holidays!
