We attended our very first Type 1 Diabetes Walk hosted by Breakthrough T1D, and it was such a memorable experience! As soon as the walk was announced, I started counting down the days and couldn’t wait to participate. Kay’s Krew came together, assembling her team of supporters, and we all gathered for this special event.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect! We loved exploring the different venues and checking out the food options. Kay brought along her trusty bear, Rufus (see the picture—so cute!), and we were thrilled to find a station where Rufus could get his annual checkup and even a brand-new shirt. There was also a life-sized Rufus walking around, spreading so much joy and excitement—it was a huge hit!

The support Kay receives from our family and friends is something I’ll always treasure. Knowing they took time out of their day to walk with us for such an important cause truly means the world to me. Seeing so many families come together with their own incredible teams, all united by a shared purpose, filled me with hope and gratitude. Type 1 Diabetes is full of ups and downs, but events like this remind me that we’re not alone in this journey.

We’re already looking forward to next year and brainstorming how to make Kay’s Krew even bigger! Matching team swag is on the list—I think it would be so fun to coordinate. I’m so grateful for organizations like Breakthrough T1D for hosting events like this, and I can’t wait to continue being a part of such a wonderful community for years to come.
