Saturday’s t ball game was one for the books, even if the heat tried its best to steal the show. It was already close to 100 degrees when we arrived, and you could feel that heavy summer air right away. There is only one more game left this weekend to wrap up the season, but if I am being honest, I am not sure we will make it. The game is not until 2 in the afternoon and by then it will be well over 100 degrees, which feels too hot for both me and Kay. I just do not think that kind of heat is worth pushing through.

We also decided to leave Maeve at home this time. Her safety and comfort matter just as much, and I did not want to risk her getting overheated in that kind of weather. It was a little different not having her there, but it was the right call.

Even with the heat, we still had such a great time. Kay hit the ball, ran the bases, danced, sang, and giggled her way through the whole game. Watching her enjoy herself like that makes everything else fade into the background. Her teacher was also there with two of her kids, which Kay absolutely loved. She lit up seeing her and it made the whole morning feel even more special.

After the game, one of Kay’s friends (and teammate) came over to swim, along with Kay’s teacher and her family. I am so grateful everyone was able to make time for that. With only about two weeks left of school, I know these moments are becoming limited, and it means a lot to have these last little memories together. That said, I truly believe her teacher will always be in Kay’s corner. She has been so supportive during Kay’s entire pre-k journey, and I cannot imagine that changing just because the school year ends or even if Kay moves on to a new school.

The rest of the day turned into one of those easy, happy summer days that you do not want to end. Kay has finally figured out her pool floats and is starting to understand how to move in her own way in the water. It is such a big change from last year when she could barely sit upright in her float without tipping forward. Now she is trying to swim, exploring and gaining confidence in a way that honestly feels so huge.

It really made me realize how much she has grown in just one year. I can already see a summer full of pool days ahead of us, and I am really looking forward to every single one of them.
