We wrapped up another joyful Friday at GiGi’s Playhouse with a session of GiGiFIT Preschool, and as usual, Kay was ready. She dashed in with her usual energy, thrilled to see the obstacle course and all the fun activities waiting for her. If you know Kay, you know she brings the energy—and the mischief. She’s often the first to “reimagine” the obstacle course layout, and I honestly think she believes she’s helping rearrange it to her liking. Future event planner in the making?
One of the things I love most about GiGiFIT is how it blends physical fitness with play. The exercises are structured to build strength, coordination, and confidence—but to the kids, it just feels like fun. For a mover like Kay, it’s the perfect outlet. She’s always on the go and definitely keeps me on my toes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Then on Saturday, we returned for Destination Discovery, and the energy continued! We had a great turnout, including some new families, which always makes my heart happy. There’s something really special about watching new kids light up when they experience the Playhouse for the first time. This session was full of creative fun—arts and crafts, a “jungle adventure” obstacle course, interactive songs, and of course, the crowd favorite: the parachute game! Seeing Kay’s eyes light up (along with every other kid in the room) is a reminder of just how magical this space is.
What I love most is that while GiGi’s programs are thoughtfully structured to support skills like listening, turn-taking, and following instructions, they also honor where each child is at. If a child isn’t feeling a certain activity? That’s okay! They can play, read, observe—or just take their time. Everything is on their terms. It’s a truly inclusive and judgment-free space where joy and connection come first.
Fun Fact: GiGi’s Playhouse is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit that offers FREE therapeutic, educational, and social programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. That means every program you see—like GiGiFIT and Destination Discovery—is made possible through the generosity of volunteers and donors. It’s an incredible example of what a community can do when it comes together with love and purpose.
We’re so grateful to be a part of the GiGi’s Playhouse family. Weekends like this remind me just how important these spaces are—not just for the kids, but for us parents too.
