Last Friday, Kay, my parents, and I had the joy of sharing dinner with Kay’s great aunt and uncle from her dad’s side. Whenever they visit Vegas, they always make it a point to spend time with Kay and me — and I find that so incredibly kind and meaningful. While Kay has met her dad’s immediate family, she hasn’t had many chances to connect with other relatives, so knowing that her great aunt and uncle take time out of their vacation to be with her truly means the world to us.
During dinner, they remarked on how much more Kay is talking and how much more sociable she has become! When we first met them, Kay was a little shy and only warmed up near the end of the visit. This time, she eagerly chose to sit right beside them almost immediately, and I could tell they really enjoyed that connection. Their support over the years has meant so much to both of us, and we’re deeply grateful. On this visit, they even brought Kay a stuffed poodle to cuddle until her service dog, Maeve, finishes training and comes home.
We shared a wonderful evening filled with conversation and laughter — especially from Kay! Vegas is such a popular vacation destination, and often close friends or family visit without reaching out to connect with us. I completely understand how busy vacations can be, but it’s always so special when we get to see loved ones, even if only briefly over a meal.
