Maeve is Home!! I still can’t believe how quickly everything happened, but I am so incredibly grateful that it did! It has officially been 48 hours since Maeve came home, and we are absolutely loving every single moment.

Maeve came home Tuesday morning, and we spent all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday with her amazing trainer. She taught me how to work with Maeve and communicate with her so that I can be the best possible handler. Maeve may have graduated, but I had a little training to do myself too!

Tuesday started with some one-on-one time with Maeve while Kay was at school, practicing a few commands and getting comfortable together. Then it was time to pick Kay up and surprise her with the big news that Maeve was finally home! After school, we headed home for a quick refresh before going out to lunch to work on our restaurant skills.

Kay had therapy in the afternoon, so we made our way to her physical therapy and speech therapy. While Kay was in therapy, Maeve and I worked closely with the trainer, practicing things like going up and down stairs, riding elevators, and waiting patiently in a busy environment. We even played a few scent games in between, helping Maeve strengthen her skills while staying focused. Once therapy wrapped up, we headed home to play even more scent games and then spent the rest of the evening relaxing and giving Maeve all the love she deserves after such a big day.

Wednesday was just as busy and full of learning. After taking Kay to school, we headed to Target to practice more skills in a real-world setting. Later, we picked Kay up and came home for lunch before heading to GiGi’s Playhouse for Kay’s occupational therapy. While we waited for Kay, we worked in a few more scent games and snapped some fun pictures. After therapy, we had a little downtime at home before finishing the day with a family dinner alongside Maeve’s trainer for one final session before she parted ways with us.

One of the best parts is knowing that Maeve’s trainer is close by and always available for tips, tricks, and follow-up support whenever we need it. We feel so lucky to have that guidance.

We are overjoyed to finally have Maeve home, and she is already settling beautifully into her role as Kay’s diabetic alert dog. Our hearts are so full, and we can’t wait to see everything Maeve and Kay will accomplish together!
