While scrolling through social media recently, I came across a post from another Type 1 family I follow. The mom was unboxing her latest Thrive Market order, and I couldn’t help but stop and watch. Thrive Market is an online grocery store that focuses on healthy, organic, and specialty products, often at prices much lower than traditional stores. They offer everything from pantry staples to snacks, beauty products, and even pet food, with plenty of allergy-friendly and diet-specific options.
I had looked into Thrive Market before, weighing whether the cost of a yearly membership plus the price of the food would actually save me money compared to ordering from other places or driving to multiple stores to find Kay’s lower carb, high protein snacks. But in this video, the mom mentioned something I didn’t know about, the Thrive Gives program. For every paid membership, Thrive Gives donates a free membership to someone who might not otherwise be able to afford it, such as teachers, veterans, first responders, and low-income households. When you join, you’re not just stocking your own kitchen, you’re helping someone else stock theirs too.
That immediately caught my attention. Feeding Kay a lower carb, higher protein diet is not cheap, and as a single mom on a limited income, I’m always looking for ways to make it more affordable without compromising on quality. I want to give her the best care I can. So I went straight to Thrive’s website, applied, and was thrilled to be approved for a free one-year membership.
I placed my first order that same day, choosing a mix of snacks other Type 1 families recommend and a few favorites Kay already loves. I was impressed with the pricing and the fact that many items come in bulk, which stretches our budget further. I can already tell I’ll be ordering from them again. This is going to be such a helpful resource for us!
