Kay and I recently spent an afternoon at Wally Wombats with some friends, and it was a much-needed outing. It had been a while since our last visit, and I knew it would be a great way for Kay to burn off some energy and have some fun.

Watching Kay play and interact with her friends is always a joy, though I noticed she wasn’t her usual cheerful self that day. Since Kay’s diabetes diagnosis, we’ve had more challenging days, and I’ve learned to accept that there are things Kay might be feeling that she can’t fully express. On those tough days, I remind myself that it’s important to still create positive experiences for her.

That’s why meeting our friends at Wally Wombats seemed like the perfect opportunity to lift Kay’s spirits and get us both out of the house. It was heartwarming to see Kay exploring the obstacles and even trying out new slides she used to fear, though she still wanted me to join her or encourage her to go down on her own.

In the end, it was a day well spent with friends, and I’m grateful for moments like these, even on the harder days.
