This past Saturday, we had the best time celebrating World Down Syndrome Day at GiGi’s Playhouse with a fun party co-hosted by Down Syndrome Connections Nevada—two truly incredible organizations that bring so much love and support to families like ours.

World Down Syndrome Day is recognized on March 21st (3/21), and that date is so intentional. Down syndrome occurs when there is a third copy of the 21st chromosome—so 3/21 beautifully represents that extra chromosome that makes our loved ones who they are.

The celebration was everything you’d hope for, tons of families showing up, many in matching shirts, but all bringing the spirit in blue and yellow, and of course, the best part… crazy, mismatched socks! We wear them because socks resemble chromosomes, and just like chromosomes, no two are exactly the same. It’s a simple but powerful way to celebrate uniqueness and start conversations about inclusion and acceptance.

Kay was in her element the entire time. If there’s music and space to dance, she’s all in—and GiGi’s is one of her absolute favorite places to just be herself. Dancing as much as she wants, surrounded by friends, and enjoying some yummy food along the way… it doesn’t get much better than that.

Moments like these always leave me feeling so full. They remind me just how lucky I am to be Kay’s mom and how grateful I am to be part of such an incredible, supportive, and loving community.

Days like World Down Syndrome Day aren’t just about awareness, they’re about celebration, connection, and embracing every single thing that makes our kids uniquely them.
