This past weekend we attended Kay’s last soccer game of the season. It was a warm day, but thankfully not too unbearable, making it perfect for cheering her on. Next season has already been announced to start a bit earlier and run a little longer in hopes of avoiding the worst of the heat—which is great, especially since it’s been warmer so much earlier this year than usual.
Kay was a little hit-and-miss with participation, but she happily stayed engaged as long as her buddy and friend Ray was holding her hand. It’s amazing to watch their friendship grow. We first met Ray a year ago when Kay was just starting t-ball. He was one of the volunteer coaches who helped Kay practice hitting the ball and walking the bases when we picked up her very first t-ball uniform. The rest, honestly, is history.
Her vocabulary has grown so much since then, and this weekend she even addressed Ray directly for the first time, saying “Hi Ray Ray.” My heart just melts seeing her blossom and form these sweet connections. Kay has truly brought me into some of the best communities, and I’m endlessly grateful for that.
We’re looking forward to the positive changes coming to next year’s soccer league, and we can’t wait to see what the new season brings!
