This weekend marked a very cute milestone for Kay — her very first soccer game!
If you’ve ever been around the 3–5 age group, you know that “soccer game” is a very loose term — and honestly, that’s what makes it so perfect. At this age, the focus isn’t on competition or keeping score. It’s all about learning the basics: practicing kicking the ball, aiming toward the goal, and getting comfortable being on the field.
The whole vibe was super chill, which I loved. There was no pressure, no rigid structure, and no expectations that every kid would follow directions perfectly the entire time. Because let’s be real — sometimes our kiddos just aren’t into structured play… and that’s okay. If someone needed a break to sit in the grass, take it all in, or just exist for a minute, that was totally welcomed.
Kay had fun and really enjoyed kicking the ball around. Watching her line up her little kicks, chase after the ball, and soak in the experience was such a proud-parent moment for me. She was engaged, smiling, and clearly enjoying herself — which is all I could ask for.
At the very end, any team member who was interested could stand in line and take turns kicking the ball into the goal. No pressure — just excitement and encouragement. Kay jumped right in and took her turn, and seeing her step up like that absolutely melted my heart.
It may have been a small moment in the grand scheme of things, but it felt big to us. First games, first goals (or goal attempts!), first experiences being part of a team — these are the moments I want to remember forever.
Here’s to grassy fields, tiny soccer balls, and celebrating every win — big or small.
