Another Halloween has come and gone, and what a fun one it was! We kicked off the day with GiGiFIT at GiGi’s Playhouse, where we showed up in our Halloween costumes (Maeve’s included—of course, she stole the show!). Afterward, we made a quick stop for Kay’s favorite meal, chicken and fries, before heading home to rest and get refreshed for the evening ahead.

Later, Tyler came to pick us up so Kay could go trick-or-treating at his office. The whole place was decked out with spooky decorations and creative setups—it was such a cool experience for her! After spending some time there, we headed home to relax a bit before dinner and then got ready again for round two: trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.

Our neighborhood doesn’t get too busy anymore since fewer homes participate, but we decided to explore a nearby area and I’m so glad we did! We stumbled upon the coolest street, partially blocked off for families, with tons of decorated houses, themed mazes, and festive fun everywhere you looked. It had that perfect Halloween energy!

When we got back home, Kay decided she wanted to hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters who stopped by. Honestly, I think she enjoyed that even more than collecting candy herself! Watching her proudly drop treats into other kids’ bags and say “Happy Halloween” and “Trick or Treat” just melted my heart. Little Red Riding Hood and her wolf (dressed as Grandma!) had a pretty great night.

And since November is Diabetes Awareness Month, I’ll add this: yes, kids with Type 1 Diabetes can enjoy Halloween candy too! It’s all about balance and planning. Candy can actually come in handy (no pun intended) for treating low blood sugars. Many families, including ours, keep a few favorite treats on hand for exactly that reason. Having diabetes doesn’t mean missing out on the fun; it just means being a little more mindful along the way.

Halloween is one of those holidays that’s pure magic for kids, and I’m so grateful that Kay gets to enjoy it just like everyone else. Seeing her excitement, confidence, and joy grow each year makes all the extra planning more than worth it.
