Kay recently had her six-month ENT checkup. These appointments are usually quick, as I don’t believe the doctor she sees is an official pediatric ENT. Kay’s original doctor moved when she was around a year old, and finding pediatric specialists in Las Vegas has been a challenge. In fact, they’re currently working on building a new children’s hospital designed to be a one-stop shop for pediatric specialists. I truly hope this project succeeds so families like ours can access the specialized care our children need.

After a long wait—and doing my best to keep Kay entertained in the waiting room (lol)—we were finally called back. Since we hadn’t seen this doctor since Kay’s diabetes diagnosis, I briefly mentioned it to him. He wanted to take a quick look inside Kay’s ears using a tiny camera, which I knew might be a struggle. Kay has been through a lot medically and handles most things well, but when it comes to her ears, it’s a different story. She absolutely hates having them examined, though I’m not sure why—aside from a few ear infections, she’s never had a negative experience that would explain her reaction.

In these moments, I’m reminded just how strong she is. It takes all my effort to help the doctor get even a brief look inside her ears. But despite the struggle, we got through it, and thankfully, Kay received a great report—no concerns! We’ll continue with our routine six-month follow-ups, and for now, I’m just grateful for another good visit.
